The sea
Cala Gonone is nestled in a natural amphitheater of limestone and basalt. The quality of the rocks and their formation, along with the ease with which they can be reached, make this an area of interest for rock climbers from all over Europe, where they can train themselves or take lessons until late autumn. Cala Gonone is an ideal departure point for all your destinations north and south of the Gulf of Orosei; whose coast, untouched by human settlements, has remained wild and uncontaminated. For those who enjoy taking a walk in nature, Cala Gonone is the ideal place in the spring or in early autumn. The many kilometers of trails that wind up to the mountains lead to deep gorges of breath-taking scenery, or up to cliffs overlooking the sea, where the deep and various smells of the Mediterranean wrap around you. One of the trails leads to Cala Luna, a place of incomparable exotic fascination, where a crescent of sandy beach is framed by a small lake of sweet water and by oleander woods. For adventurous hiker, there are the daring trails that lead to the splendid Cala Sisine. Along the way, you may discover one of the ancient "pinnettos", truncated-conical sheepcotes that since the dawn of time have been the shelter of sheep-herds and shepherds.
